The Jamia's First Director

The first director of Jamia Islamia Obaidia was Hazratul Hajj Allama Amir Uddin Sahib (rahimahullah). He began teaching at the prayer-house (ebadatkhana) of the pious Master Fazlur Rahman Sahib of the locality on 29 Shawwal 1377 Hijri. From that beginning, the institution gradually grew into what is known today as Jamia Islamia Obaidia. He served as director until 1380 Hijri. His fellow teachers at the time included Hazrat Alhaj Qari Afsar Ahmad (rahimahullah), Qari Hamed Sahib of Bhujpur, the late Maulana Mahmudul Wali Sahib (rahimahullah), and the late Hazrat Abu Sufyan (rahimahullah), among others.

The founding director of Jamia Obaidia, Hazrat Maulana Amir Uddin (rahimahullah), was born in 1922 to Janab Ochi Mia Pandit of Maijbhandar village. From the beginning through Jamat-e-Panjum, he studied under his teacher at Hemayatul Islam Madrasa, founded by the late Hazrat Maulana Obaidul Haq Sahib (rahimahullah) in Nanupur Bazar. From there he studied for two years at Chattogram Darul Uloom Alia Madrasa, and afterward at the renowned Darul Uloom Deoband in India. On returning home, he was appointed a teacher at Hemayatul Islam, the madrasa founded by his own teacher. After that madrasa closed, he taught for a time at Babunagar Madrasa, and then for a time at the madrasa of the late Maulana Abdullah Sahib in Charaliahat. He then founded Jamia Obaidia and spent the rest of his life at this Jamia.

He was a khalifa of Pakistan's Muftiye Azam, Maulana Mufti Shafi Sahib (rahimahullah). While travelling for Hajj in 1380 Hijri, on the advice of the wali of Patiya, Mufti Azizul Haq Sahib (rahimahullah), he entrusted the direction of the madrasa to Hazrat Maulana Shah Sultan Ahmad Nanupuri (rahimahullah). He passed from this world on 25 May 1984 CE — 22 Sha'ban 1404 Hijri — at the age of 63.
