The Jamia's Second Director

The Jamia's second Muhtamim was Hazrat Allama Shah Sultan Ahmad Nanupuri (rahimahullah). He served as advisory director in 1379 Hijri, and was given charge as director of the madrasa in 1380 Hijri, remaining the Jamia's chief director for nearly 27 years. Through his sacrifice and endurance, and his supplications before Allah, this madrasa grew into the world-renowned Jamia it is known as today. Hazrat Nanupuri (rahimahullah) was born on the 2nd of Sha'ban, 1332 Hijri, into a respected family of Dharmapur village in Fatikchhari, Chattogram District. His mother passed away when he was two and a half years old, and his father passed away while he was studying in the sixth-year Arabic class (Shashum). He completed his studies at Darul Uloom Deoband, one of Asia's foremost seats of learning. Renowned for his extraordinary talent, warm temperament, and noble character, he was entrusted with the great responsibility of leading prayers as imam of the Darul Uloom Deoband mosque. From his student days he was a master of Hadith, Tafsir, and Fiqh — in short, an unrivalled bearer of the religious sciences, and a discerning, exemplary teacher. In his years of teaching he achieved extraordinary distinction in the instruction of Sahih Muslim and Sahih Bukhari along with other works of Hadith, Fiqh, rhetoric (Balaghat), and logic (Mantiq). He answered his Lord's call and departed this life in 1997 CE, corresponding to 1418 Hijri.
