The Jamia's First Sheikhul Hadith

The Jamia's first Dawra-e-Hadith (the final year of the Dars-e-Nizami curriculum) began in 1393 Hijri, with Hazrat Allama Maulana Mas'udul Haq (rahimahullah) as its first Sheikhul Hadith. He was born in Patiya, Chattogram, and received his early education at Jiri Madrasa, Patiya, and at Hathazari Madrasa. He then travelled to Darul Uloom Deoband for higher studies, completing Dawra-e-Hadith there. He subsequently went to Ajmer, then a renowned centre of spiritual learning, to study Mantiq (logic) under Mainuddin Ajmeri (rahimahullah), completing his formal education there after several years of study. On returning home, he spent decades rendering distinguished teaching service in Hadith, Tafsir, Fiqh, and other religious subjects across various madrasas and Jamias. Among the institutions he served, Jamia Mazharul Uloom Chattogram, Jamia Islamia Chariya, Koigram Jamia Islamia, and Jamia Islamia Obaidia are particularly notable.

At this Jamia alone — apart from any other institution — he taught the lessons of Sahih Bukhari for a full 13 years. He was a khalifa of Hazrat Hussain Ahmad Madani (rahimahullah). His mastery extended not only to Hadith but to every field of learning, and he was himself unmatched in the speed and precision of his answers to any question. He passed from this transient world on 24 August 1985, after suffering illness for seven months while serving as this Jamia's Sheikhul Hadith.
